Workstations for RealityScan
RealityScan leans on the processor more than the GPU, and core count matters on large projects. We size these machines around the processor and memory first, with a strong NVIDIA card for meshing and texturing.
What matters for RealityScan
- Processor core count for large projects
- Memory that grows with the number of images and features
- An NVIDIA GPU for meshing and texturing
- NVMe storage for the operating system, cache and projects
The processor has the bigger impact overall in RealityScan and core count now has a substantial impact, with the Threadripper 9980X the top performer and the Ryzen 9 9950X the value choice. On the GPU side, Standard uses one NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 32GB and Heavy uses two. A second GPU adds 5% to 13%. Epic notes that without a compatible GPU, RealityScan can register images but cannot mesh or texture (Epic Games). Memory for alignment grows with the number of features and images. So the range steps up mainly through the processor and memory. Standard uses a Ryzen 9 9950X3D with 128GB. Heavy moves to a 32-core Threadripper 9970X with 256GB for large projects. Studio uses the 64-core Threadripper 9980X with 512GB and two NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 48GB cards.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. Core count now has a substantial impact, and the 64-core Threadripper 9980X is the top performer.
Only modestly. A second GPU gives a 5% to 13% gain, so one GPU, or at most two, is recommended. Only Studio has two cards.
Plan on at least 32GB. As a rule of thumb, alignment memory is about the number of features times the number of images times 200 bytes. Large image sets push that up quickly, which is why the range runs from 128GB to 512GB.
Standard suits small and medium projects. Heavy moves to 32 cores and 256GB for large image sets. Studio is for the largest projects, with 64 cores, 512GB and a second GPU.
Yes. Press Customise and the configurator opens with this build already selected. You can change any part except the chassis, such as more storage or more memory, and the price updates as you go.
