Workstations for Cinema 4D

Cinema 4D models and animates on one CPU thread, and its default renderer, Redshift, renders on the GPU. We size these machines for a quick viewport and up to four render cards.

What matters for Cinema 4D

  • High CPU clocks for modelling and animation
  • GPU power and memory for the viewport and Redshift
  • Up to four GPUs for Redshift rendering
  • Core count only if you render on the CPU

Cinema 4D’s modelling and animation are primarily single-threaded, so clock speed matters most while you work. Redshift, the default renderer, renders on the GPU. Redshift scales across cards, but in our experience the gain beyond four GPUs is not worth the cost, so this range follows our Redshift configurations. Standard pairs the Ryzen 9 9950X3D with an NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 32GB. Heavy moves to the Atom with two NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 48GB cards, and Studio fits four in the Nano Pro, each on a full PCIe Gen5 x16 link. Team keeps four GPUs but uses RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Max-Q 96GB cards and 1TB of memory for the largest scenes. For memory, 16GB is a minimum and 64GB or more suits heavy high-resolution rendering. If you render on the CPU instead, cores matter, and the 64-core Threadripper 9980X is the one to consider.

Frequently asked questions

Not for modelling and animation. Extra cards help when you render with Redshift, which scales across cards. Heavy, Studio and Team add GPUs for that reason.

The 64-core Threadripper 9980X is the recommended choice for CPU rendering; the 96-core 9995WX is about 18% faster but not worth the price for most users. These configurations are built for Redshift, so tell us and we will configure an Atom with the 9980X.

Redshift is the default renderer, and in our experience its gain beyond four GPUs is too small to justify. For more throughput we recommend a second machine.

Maxon lists an AVX2 processor, 16GB of memory and a GPU that meets Redshift’s requirements (Maxon system requirements). Every configuration here comfortably exceeds the memory figure.

Standard suits a single artist on a budget. Heavy suits a professional or freelancer who renders with Redshift on two cards. Studio puts four NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 48GB cards in one workstation for a studio or team. Team is for large teams and enterprise work with the heaviest scenes, using four 96GB cards.
