Workstations for Unity
Unity’s frame rate comes from the GPU, while light baking and compiling reward more CPU cores. We size these machines for the editor first, then for bake and build times.
What matters for Unity
- GPU speed for display and frame rate
- CPU cores for light baking and compiling
- System memory for long bakes
- Fast storage for builds
In Unity the GPU mainly drives display and frame rate, and a faster card will not improve other tasks. The NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 32GB and NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 48GB are the cards to consider. On the CPU, a 12-core Ryzen 9 9900X suits most users, with the 16-core 9950X as a step up and Threadripper 9000 for light baking and compiling, where it is substantially faster. Standard pairs the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D with an NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 32GB. Heavy keeps the processor and moves to an NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 48GB, with 48GB of memory for virtual production, VR and archviz. Studio is worth it only if baking or compiling holds you up: it moves to the 32-core Threadripper 9970X in the Atom, with 256GB of memory. For memory, 32GB suits most users, with 64GB or more for bakes that take hours. Unity recommends a high-IOPS disk for builds (Unity requirements), so every configuration uses a Samsung 9100 Pro Gen 5 drive. Multi-GPU use is not documented, so each machine has one card.

Frequently asked questions
No. The GPU in Unity mainly drives display and frame rate, and a faster card will not improve other tasks. Bakes and compiles depend on the CPU.
When light baking or compiling holds you up. Threadripper 9000 is substantially faster for those tasks. For everyday editor work, the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D is enough.
Multi-GPU use is not documented in the sources we rely on, so each configuration has one strong card.
As a guide, 32GB suits most users, with 64GB or more for bakes that take hours. Standard and Heavy have 128GB, and Studio 256GB.
Standard suits a single developer on a budget. Heavy suits a professional or freelancer working in virtual production, VR or archviz, with an NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 48GB. Studio is for a studio or team whose bottleneck is heavy light baking or compiling.
