Workstations for Autodesk Maya

Maya’s modelling and animation run mainly on one CPU thread and one GPU, so we size these machines for high clock speeds and a strong, certified viewport card.

What matters for Autodesk Maya

  • High CPU clock speed for modelling and animation
  • A certified professional GPU for a smooth viewport
  • GPU memory for heavier scenes
  • A separate render build if you render heavily

Maya’s modelling and animation are primarily single-threaded, so core count is not particularly important. The GPU drives the viewport, which should reach at least 30 frames per second and ideally 60. Maya itself does not use more than one GPU; only third-party renderers do. Autodesk certifies NVIDIA RTX PRO cards and only tests GeForce cards, which is why both configurations use RTX PRO Blackwell GPUs. Standard pairs the Core Ultra 9 285K with an NVIDIA RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell 16GB for typical scenes. Heavy keeps the same processor and steps up to the RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell 32GB for heavier viewports. Allow 16GB of memory as a minimum, 32GB for very complex scenes and 64GB or more for heavy rendering, so 128GB leaves plenty of headroom. We stop at the Electron because Maya gains nothing from more cores or GPUs. If you render with Arnold, V-Ray or Redshift, those pages size the machine around the renderer.

Frequently asked questions

Maya’s modelling and animation are primarily single-threaded, and Maya does not use more than one GPU. Bigger machines help only with rendering, so for that we size around your renderer: see our Arnold, V-Ray and Redshift pages.

Autodesk certifies NVIDIA RTX PRO cards for Maya and only tests GeForce cards. Both configurations use certified RTX PRO Blackwell GPUs.

Not for modelling and animation, where core count is not particularly important. Cores help CPU renderers such as Arnold, which is why our Arnold configurations go up to 96 cores.

Allow 16GB as a minimum, 32GB for very complex scenes and 64GB or more for heavy rendering. Both configurations have 128GB.

Standard suits a single artist on a budget working on typical scenes. Heavy suits a professional or freelancer with heavier viewports, doubling GPU memory to 32GB.
