Workstations for Ansys
With Ansys, your licences decide how much hardware you can use. We size these machines to the cores and GPUs you are licensed for, then to memory bandwidth and model size.
What matters for Ansys
- Your HPC licences: most Ansys applications use four cores without them
- Memory bandwidth, with every memory channel populated equally
- System memory sized to degrees of freedom or cell count
- For the Fluent GPU solver, GPU memory per million cells and matched cards
- Fast NVMe storage, avoiding QLC drives
Most Ansys applications use four CPU cores without HPC licences, and more cores need HPC or HPC Pack licences: two HPC Packs enable 36 cores (Ansys HPC licensing). The Fluent GPU solver needs a CFD Enterprise licence and is licensed by streaming multiprocessors, with 40 included and unlimited under CFD HPC Ultimate. For Mechanical, high core frequency and equally populated memory channels matter, with about 15GB of memory per million degrees of freedom (SimuTech). The cards we offer are not recommended for Mechanical’s sparse direct solver, which needs strong double precision; they help the iterative (PCG) and mixed solvers only (Ansys GPU accelerator requirements). Fluent on CPU scales well with cores, but CFD is memory-bandwidth bound, so we size at two to four cores per memory channel (CFD Online). On GPU, Fluent needs 1.2GB to 3.6GB of VRAM per million hex cells, system memory at least equal to total GPU memory, and matched cards (Ansys Fluent GPU buying guide). Both ladders step up channels, memory and GPUs together.

Frequently asked questions
Most Ansys applications use four cores without HPC licences, and each HPC Pack unlocks more: two HPC Packs enable 36 cores (Ansys HPC licensing). The Fluent GPU solver includes 40 streaming multiprocessors, with more needing HPC licences or unlimited under CFD HPC Ultimate. Tell us what you hold before you choose, so you do not pay for cores you cannot use.
Only for some solvers. Ansys marks the RTX PRO 6000 and RTX PRO 5000 as not recommended for the sparse direct solver, but suitable for the iterative (PCG) and mixed solvers, with at least 16GB of on-card memory recommended (Ansys GPU accelerator requirements). For sparse direct work, spend on CPU, memory bandwidth and memory instead.
Fluent 2025 R2 and 2026 R1 list NVIDIA Blackwell cards as compatible, though the RTX PRO 6000 is not on Ansys’s recommended list. Double precision on cards without strong FP64 runs at roughly a quarter to half the speed, while single precision is unaffected. AMD cards can only be used under Linux (Ansys Fluent GPU buying guide).
On CPU, match the tier to your licences: Standard for four licensed cores, Heavy for one or two HPC Packs, Studio for larger licence counts and models, and Team only with large or unlimited HPC licensing. For the Fluent GPU solver, choose by model size: each tier shows our estimate of the hex-cell count it holds in single precision.
Yes. Ansys runs on Windows and Linux. For 2025 R2, supported Linux versions include Rocky Linux 8.10 and 9.4 and Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 (Ansys Linux prerequisites). These configurations ship with Windows 11 Pro; tell us if you need Linux.
