Workstations for DaVinci Resolve
Resolve does most of its heavy lifting on the GPU, so the card and its memory decide how smoothly you grade and play back. We size these machines around that first, then match system memory to your resolution.
What matters for DaVinci Resolve
- GPU memory for your resolution: 12GB at 4K, 20GB or more at 6K and 8K
- System memory that rises with resolution, from 96GB at 4K to 256GB at 12K
- Separate NVMe drives for the operating system, projects and cache
- A DeckLink card if you grade on a calibrated monitor
Resolve Studio leans on the GPU for playback, colour, noise reduction and effects. The minimum GPU memory is 12GB for 4K and 20GB or more for 6K and 8K, and memory on separate cards is not combined, so each card must hold the work. Resolve Studio can use several GPUs, but gains usually peak at three to four. In Resolve 20, a second NVIDIA card adds about 50% on GPU effects and about 40% on BRAW, while Fusion runs fastest on a single GPU. So the range starts with one NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 32GB for 4K, moves to the NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 48GB, adds a second card for heavy effects work, and ends with four RTX PRO 6000 Max-Q 96GB cards for 8K and 12K finishing. System memory rises from 128GB to 512GB in line with the recommended minimums by resolution, and every build has separate drives for the system, projects and cache.

Frequently asked questions
It depends on the work. In Resolve 20 a second NVIDIA card adds about 50% on GPU effects such as noise reduction and about 40% on BRAW, but Fusion runs 45% to 50% faster on a single GPU. The free version of Resolve uses one GPU; Resolve Studio is needed for more.
The recommended minimums are 192GB of system memory at 8K and 256GB at 12K, with 20GB or more of GPU memory from 6K upwards. Memory on separate GPUs is not combined, so each card needs enough on its own.
For colour-critical monitoring, the DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K or DeckLink Studio 4K is a good choice, and Blackmagic lists DeckLink as compatible with DaVinci Resolve (Blackmagic Design). On Linux, Resolve audio output may need a DeckLink or Intensity card.
Standard suits 4K editing and grading on one machine. Heavy adds GPU memory for 6K and 8K timelines and is the right choice if you work mostly in Fusion, which runs best on one GPU. Studio adds a second card for heavy noise reduction, effects and BRAW. Team is for 8K to 12K finishing, with four 96GB cards and 512GB of memory.
Avoid mixing GeForce and RTX PRO cards in one Resolve system. Each of our configurations uses matching cards.
